CBT
If your licence is Provisional or a full car licence with a provisional entitlement to ride a motorcycle then the licence must be validated by a CBT certificate (DL 196). The exception to this rule is a Full car licence holder who may ride a moped without the requirement for a CBT certificate.
The CBT course is based on five modules which will take you through:
- The advantages of protective clothing.
- Machine familiarisation.
- Practical on site riding.
- Road craft and motorcycle safety.
- A two hour ride on the road.
- You must complete all five modules (to a satisfactory standard) before being issued with your CBT certificate. No time limit is placed on training which takes place at your pace.
- At 16 years old -A moped of no more than 50cc and restricted to 30 mph
- At 17 and above- A moped or motorcycle of no more than 125cc
The CBT is not a test it is an assesment of your knowledge and rider skills. If you do not reach the required standard on your first visit then you will be invited to return on prearranged date to finish the course.
There is one exception to the above. A full car licence holder who passed their test prior to the1/2/01 may ride a moped without restrictions or L plates.
